Couple separated by war wins wedding contest
ROCHESTER, N.Y. Michael and
Cathy Parson will finally get that wedding Iraq keeps postponing.
The couple had to postpone
two wedding dates when Michael's Marine unit was deployed to Iraq twice
in the past two years. Instead of a fancy wedding, they got married in
San Diego on Christmas Eve 2003 in a last-minute civil ceremony just
before the Livingston County native was deployed overseas.
But now they'll get to walk
down the aisle in style, thanks to the Nuptial Network of Greater
Rochester, a consortium of bridal specialists. The businesses sponsored
a contest offering a wedding worth more than 20-thousand dollars for
someone who had served in Iraq.
The Parsons' story of
commitment beat out 24 others. They'll reaffirm their vows next January,
followed by a lavish reception in Rochester.
Cathy Parsons tells the
Rochester Democrat and Chronicle she already has her wedding dress --
it's been sitting in her closet for two years.
